What it is

The Ideal 172122 is a rear insulation panel supplied for Ideal Commercial Concord appliances. It is the moulded insulating section that sits at the rear of the appliance casing, behind the heat exchanger and combustion area, and its job is to hold heat inside the working zone rather than letting it escape into the surrounding casing and the room.

Insulation of this type also protects nearby components and wiring from sustained radiant heat, and helps keep the outer panels at a safe, stable temperature during long running periods. The panel is listed under the manufacturer's insulation part group and carries the previous reference 9422-9279.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The insulation board is crumbling, flaking or breaking up when touched, leaving exposed metal surfaces behind it.
  • Discolouration, scorching or a burnt smell around the rear casing area, suggesting the panel is no longer shielding components from heat.
  • Damp or stained insulation, which usually points to a leak or condensate tracking down the rear of the appliance.
  • The appliance casing or rear panels running noticeably hotter than normal during operation.
  • Visible gaps or missing sections where the panel has dropped out of position or been disturbed during earlier work.

Before you order

  • Confirm the appliance model and serial number against the compatibility list, as Concord variants differ in casing and insulation layout.
  • Check the existing panel for the previous reference 9422-9279 so the replacement matches what is currently fitted.
  • Inspect the surrounding seals and fixings while the casing is open, and replace any that are perished or missing at the same time.
  • This part is fitted to a gas appliance; installation must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
