What it is
The Ideal 172036 is a complete ten-section boiler body, supplied as a heat exchanger assembly for Ideal Commercial Concord ES appliances. It forms the main cast sectional heat exchanger of the boiler, where combustion gases pass over the sections and transfer heat into the system water. The assembly is supplied complete as a ten-section body rather than as individual sections.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Water weeping or visible staining around the section joints or the body casting
- Repeated pressure loss on the system that cannot be traced to other components
- Kettling, banging or rumbling noises from the heat exchanger during firing
- Poor heat output or uneven heating across the sections despite correct burner operation
- Corrosion, scale build-up or cracking found on inspection of the sections

- Check the existing part number on the appliance, as earlier numbers 8358-5502 and 1178422 may be marked on the original body
