What it is
The pilot burner head is the component that carries the standing pilot flame on an Ideal gas appliance. Gas passes through the gas valve and reaches the burner head, where it is ignited; the resulting flame then lights the main burner and, in turn, heats the water in the primary heat exchanger.
This is an Ideal Domestic Boiler Spares part, part number 171439, supplied together with the CLAFF100 injector kit. It is a gas-carrying component and is used across a large number of Ideal British Gas, Scottish Gas and Classic models.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The pilot flame fails to light, or lights and then goes out shortly afterwards
- A weak, lazy or yellow pilot flame instead of a steady blue flame
- The pilot flame lifts away from the burner head or will not hold on the thermocouple
- Soot or discolouration building up around the burner head and injector
- Repeated lockouts or ignition faults traced back to a poor pilot flame
