What it is

The Ideal 170421 is a lower rear cross bar that forms part of the casing assembly on Ideal Commercial appliances. It is produced under the Caradon name and sits across the lower rear of the casing, where it ties the rear panels together and keeps the outer casework square and rigid. As a casing component it carries no gas or water, but it plays a direct role in how the appliance presents and how the panels align around the heat exchanger and burner area.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Surface corrosion or rust along the length of the bar, particularly where it meets the rear panels
  • Bowing, twisting or other distortion that stops the casing panels sitting square
  • Elongated, cracked or stripped fixing holes that no longer hold the bar securely
  • Movement or rattling from the lower rear casing when the appliance is running
  • Flaking paint with bare metal exposed, which will continue to deteriorate

Before you order

  • Confirm the appliance model and serial number against the compatibility list before ordering, as the same casing design was used across several Viscount variants
  • Check the bar currently fitted for the previous number 82598055 or the alternative number 1177617 to confirm you are matching the right item
  • Inspect the surrounding fixings and panel edges at the same time, since a distorted cross bar often goes with damaged casework
  • This is not a gas-carrying component, but any work that involves removing or refitting the appliance casing should be carried out by a competent person following the manufacturer's instructions
