What it is
The Ideal 170145 is an upper baffle, designated 541 LG, for Ideal Commercial Harrier series boilers. It sits in the upper flueway of the heat exchanger, where it slows and redirects the passage of hot flue gases so they give up more heat to the surrounding waterways. Correct baffle fitment keeps combustion efficiency up and helps prevent localised overheating of the heat exchanger surfaces.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Flue gas readings drifting high, indicating heat is passing through the boiler rather than being absorbed
- Visible distortion, cracking, erosion or heavy soot and scale build-up on the baffle plate
- Boiler short-cycling or locking out on an overheat condition
- Rattling or movement of baffle plates within the upper flueway
- Uneven combustion readings or sooting across the heat exchanger passages
Before you order
- Confirm the boiler model and serial number against the compatibility list before ordering
- Check the markings on the baffle being removed; 82190017 and 1177403 both identify this part
- Inspect the gaskets, seals and fasteners on the flue and heat exchanger access covers and renew any that are damaged
