What it is
This is an 8mm silicone coated glass rope seal manufactured by Ideal for use on its commercial appliance range. The rope forms a heat-resistant gasket around combustion chamber and access doors, closing the gap between the door face and the appliance body so that flue gases stay where they should. The silicone coating protects the glass fibre core from abrasion and handling damage while the door is opened and closed during servicing.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The rope is frayed, flattened or visibly shedding glass fibre strands
- The rope has hardened or gone brittle and no longer compresses against the door face
- Soot streaking or discolouration around the door edge, indicating leakage past the seal
- Combustion readings that drift or fail to settle after servicing
- The door no longer seats evenly, or the rope falls away when the door is opened
Before you order
- Confirm the appliance model and serial number against the compatibility list before ordering, as several Buccaneer variants use different door seals
- Measure the existing rope diameter to confirm 8mm is correct for your door channel
- Note the alternative and previous numbers 1176998 and 95086036, which may appear on older documentation or labels
