What it is
The Vaillant 150242 is an automatic bypass valve rated at 1.7 m and supplied as a complete assembly. It is fitted to Vaillant Thermocompact and Turbomax Plus gas boilers, where it maintains a minimum flow rate through the heat exchanger as system valves close. The valve opens automatically as differential pressure rises, protecting the boiler from overheating and excessive pump load.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Boiler locks out or overheats when system valves close down
- Kettling or banging from the heat exchanger at low flow
- Radiators heating when only hot water is called for
- Pump noise or whistling that clears when a bypass path opens
- Valve body leaking, or the adjuster seized and unable to hold its setting
Before you order
- Confirm your boiler model against the fit list above
- Check the existing bypass valve is set to 1.7 m
- Inspect the pipework connections and seals before fitting
- Verify the part number 150242 on the existing valve where visible

Fitment listings are a guide, not a guarantee. Plant-room assemblies get modified on site more often than not. Send us the GC number off the data badge and a photo of the existing valve and we will confirm before anything is dispatched.
