What it is

The Ideal tie rod pack is a set of threaded rods used to clamp the sectional heat exchanger of Ideal Commercial boilers together. The rods run through the sections and are tensioned to hold the cast iron assemblies tight against their joint seals, which keeps the waterways and flueways gas-tight and water-tight under operating pressure.

This pack is sized for 14 to 15 section heat exchangers and is listed by Ideal under part number 101665, previously 97510445. It sits in the rods and spindles group of Ideal Commercial spares.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Water weeping or staining at the joints between heat exchanger sections
  • Visible corrosion, scale or rust tracking along the section seams
  • Boiler struggling to hold pressure with no obvious external leak on the system pipework
  • Rods that are visibly stretched, corroded or have lost tension
  • Joint seals that have failed and need the sections re-clamping after a rebuild

Before you order

  • Confirm the appliance model and the number of heat exchanger sections before ordering, as the rod length is matched to a 14-15 section stack.
  • Check the part number on the existing component or in the appliance documentation against 101665 and the earlier number 97510445.
  • Tie rods are normally renewed alongside the section joint seals when a heat exchanger is stripped and rebuilt, so check whether a gasket or seal kit is also needed for the job.
