What it is
The Vaillant 101178 is an over-heat temperature limiter for Vaillant gas boilers. It monitors appliance temperature and interrupts the burner circuit if the boiler overheats, shutting the appliance down to prevent damage or unsafe operation. It replaces manufacturer code 171014.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Boiler locks out or shuts down shortly after firing
- Repeated overheat trips that need resetting
- No hot water or heating despite a call for heat
- Boiler cuts out before reaching the set temperature
- Limiter will not reset, or the housing is damaged
Before you order
- Confirm the appliance is a Vaillant MAG 9/1 OZ
- Check the existing limiter against part number 101178 or replaced code 171014
- Isolate the electrical supply and gas before any work
- Check the fault history to confirm the limiter is the cause, not a circulation or flow problem
