What it is

The limit stat/overheat stat is a safety thermostat for Johnson & Starley boilers, produced by Landis & Gyr. It monitors boiler temperature and interrupts the burner sequence if the appliance overheats. It is a protective control rather than a modulating component, so it operates only when the boiler exceeds its safe operating limit.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The boiler locks out repeatedly with no other fault found.
  • The appliance fails to fire after the overheat stat has tripped.

  • Continuity testing shows the stat is open when it should be closed.
