What it is

The Alpha 3-way valve motor, part 1.045321, is the electrically driven head that operates the diverter valve on Alpha condensing boilers. It mounts on the hydraulic assembly and rotates the valve spindle so primary water is sent either around the central heating circuit or through the domestic hot water plate heat exchanger. The same motor head is used across the Alpha Eco 2, InTEC 2 and E-Tec ranges.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Hot water runs cold while the central heating continues to work normally, or the reverse.
  • Radiators warm up when only a hot tap is opened, indicating the valve is held in the heating position.
  • The boiler fires and then cuts out shortly after a hot water demand starts.
  • The motor head buzzes, runs hot or fails to rotate when the valve is tested through a demand change.
  • A diverter valve or hot water related fault is logged on the boiler display.

Before you order

  • Check the GC number on the appliance data badge against the compatibility list; Alpha fitted this motor to several boiler families.
  • Earlier builds may carry part 1.033918, which this number replaces.
  • Inspect the valve body and its seals while the head is removed, as a worn body will not be corrected by a new motor alone.
  • Isolate the electrical supply and drain down as required before removing the motor head.
