What it is
The Candle of Ignition-Detection is an ignition and flame sensing electrode manufactured by Alpha for the E-TEC R range of gas boilers. It sits in the combustion circuit, where it provides the ignition spark at the burner and detects the presence of a flame once combustion is established. It is supplied under Alpha part number 1.042568.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The boiler fails to ignite, with no spark at the burner
- Repeated lockouts on start-up or during a demand for heat
- The burner lights but the boiler shuts down shortly afterwards because no flame is detected
- Visible soot, corrosion, cracking or a distorted electrode tip
- An unstable or intermittent flame signal during operation
