What it is
The Alpha 1.039476 is an NTC temperature probe mounted on an 18mm diameter pipe. It is used across the Alpha E-TEC and Evoke appliance families to sense pipe temperature and feed that reading back to the boiler control. The probe is a negative temperature coefficient thermistor, so its resistance falls as the pipe temperature rises.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Boiler locks out or shuts down with a temperature-related fault code
- Flow or return temperature readings that are clearly wrong or implausible
- Erratic boiler cycling or unstable heating output
- Resistance reading across the probe falls outside the expected range for the pipe temperature
- Intermittent faults that appear once the appliance is up to temperature
