What it is
The Alpha domestic hot water NTC probe is a negative temperature coefficient sensor that monitors the temperature of the domestic hot water circuit on Alpha boilers. It is made by Alpha and supplied as a replacement spare for the ECO family and related appliances. As water temperature rises, the probe's resistance falls, giving the boiler control board the feedback it needs to regulate hot water delivery and protect the appliance from overheating.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Domestic hot water runs hot and cold instead of holding a steady temperature
- No hot water, or the boiler fails to respond to a hot water demand
- A sensor or domestic hot water fault code appears on the boiler display
- The boiler locks out or short-cycles when hot water is drawn
- Domestic hot water temperature is reported inaccurately by the controls
