What it is

The Alpha 1.023560 is an 8 litre expansion vessel used in Alpha gas-fired boilers. It sits on the heating circuit and absorbs the volume change as the system water heats and cools, holding the sealed system pressure within a stable band. The vessel is a diaphragm type, with a pre-charged air side separated from the water side.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • System pressure rises sharply when the boiler heats up and falls again once it cools.
  • The boiler needs frequent topping up at the filling loop to hold pressure.
  • Water discharges from the pressure relief valve during normal running.
  • The vessel feels heavy or waterlogged when tapped, or no air is heard when the charge valve is depressed.
  • Visible corrosion or weeping at the vessel connection or shell.
