What it is
The Vaillant 090724 is an ignition and monitoring electrode used on Vaillant Thermocompact and Turbomax gas boilers. It provides the spark that lights the burner and feeds the flame signal back to the boiler's control board. It is a serviceable component within the combustion circuit and is replaced when ignition or flame detection becomes unreliable.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Boiler fails to ignite, with no spark at the burner
- Repeated lockouts shortly after the burner lights
- Flame established but the boiler shuts down as if no flame is present
- Visible cracking, erosion or heavy carbon build-up on the electrode tip or ceramic insulator
- Intermittent ignition that worsens over time

- Check the existing electrode for damage, correct gap and secure lead connection before condemning it
- Inspect the ignition lead and control board, as ignition faults are not always caused by the electrode
- Work on the combustion circuit should be carried out by a competent gas engineer
