What it is
The Vaillant 090563 is a monitoring electrode used in Vaillant gas boilers, including the Thermocompact, Turbomax and Thermo Compact families. It sits in the combustion circuit and provides the flame monitoring signal the boiler's control board uses to confirm a burner flame is present. It is a serviceable component, replaced when the electrode or its insulation degrades.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Boiler locks out shortly after the burner lights, or fails to sustain a flame
- Repeated ignition attempts with the burner extinguishing each time
- Flame failure or flame monitoring fault indicated by the boiler controls
- Visible contamination, corrosion or pitting on the electrode tip
- Cracked or discoloured ceramic insulator, or a damaged lead connection

- Compare the electrode against the one removed from the boiler before fitting
- Inspect the existing electrode seal and lead, and renew if damaged
- Isolate the gas and electrical supply before any work on the combustion circuit
