What it is

The pressure switch membrane (diaphragm) 075421 is a replacement component for Ideal central heating boilers. It sits inside the pressure switch assembly and flexes in response to changes in system or fan pressure, closing the switch contacts so the boiler control board registers a demand and allows the appliance to fire. A split, hardened or distorted membrane stops that signal reaching the board, which is why the boiler can appear dead or cycle unpredictably.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Boiler fails to fire on a call for heat or hot water, with no fan or ignition sequence starting
  • Intermittent operation, where the appliance runs on some demands but not others
  • Pressure switch contacts not closing when the fan runs, traced back to a stiff or perished membrane
  • Visible splitting, cracking or deformation of the diaphragm once the switch is opened
  • Repeated lockouts that clear temporarily and return after a short period of use

Before you order

  • Check the appliance GC number and model against the compatibility list before ordering, as the same switch body can carry different membranes across the range
  • Cross-check the alternative part numbers 1174085 and N2230-C against the component being removed
  • Inspect the switch housing and any sealing faces while the assembly is apart, and replace worn seals at the same time if required
