What it is

The Ideal HT Lead Assembly is the high-tension cable that carries the ignition spark from the ignition source to the spark electrode on the burner. It is supplied by Ideal as a spare for a range of their gas appliances, including the British/Scottish Gas RD2 family. A sound HT lead is essential for consistent light-up, so a damaged or degraded lead will show up as ignition faults rather than as a visible leak or lockout code.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The appliance fails to ignite, with no spark at the electrode despite the ignition sequence running.
  • Ignition is intermittent, lighting on some attempts and not others.
  • The lead shows cracked, brittle or heat-damaged insulation, particularly near the electrode end.
  • Sparking or arcing is visible or audible along the lead rather than at the electrode tip.
  • The boiler locks out repeatedly on start-up with an ignition-related fault.

Before you order

  • Check the appliance GC number and model against the compatibility list to confirm this lead is the correct fitment.
  • The alternative part number 1170717 may be quoted on older documentation for the same lead.
  • Inspect the electrode and its gasket or seal at the same time, as these are commonly disturbed when the lead is replaced.
  • This part is fitted to a gas appliance; installation must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
