What it is
The Vaillant 014720 is a drain cock — a small valve fitted at a low point on a heating or hot water circuit so the system can be emptied safely during servicing, repair or decommissioning. It is a Vaillant service component, intended for use on the manufacturer's own appliances and system pipework rather than as a generic plumbing fitting. In normal operation the valve stays closed; when the spindle is turned, water is released through the outlet so the appliance or circuit can be drained down.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Water weeping or dripping from the outlet with the valve fully closed
- A spindle that is stiff, seized or will not turn by hand
- Scale or corrosion around the valve body or outlet
- Water failing to drain when the valve is opened
- Damp staining or mineral deposits on the pipework beneath the drain point
Before you order
- Confirm the part number 014720 against the appliance data badge or the manufacturer's parts listing before ordering
- Check whether a sealing washer or gasket is required at the connection point, as these are often reused or replaced separately
- Isolate the appliance and drain the system before removing the old drain cock
