What it is

The Ideal 005001 is a thermistor, a temperature-sensing component fitted to Ideal Sprint Rapide boilers. It measures the temperature of the water in the appliance and passes a resistance signal back to the control board, which uses that reading to regulate firing and hot water delivery. A failed thermistor leaves the board without reliable temperature data, so the boiler may lock out, run erratically or stop producing hot water altogether.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The boiler locks out or fails to fire on a call for heat or hot water
  • Hot water temperature is erratic, running hot then cold without adjustment
