What it is

The Vaillant 0020246709 is an ignition electrode used on ecoTEC Plus VU and ecoTEC Sustain VUW gas boilers. It sits at the burner and produces the spark that ignites the gas and air mixture during start-up. A worn or contaminated electrode is a common cause of ignition failure and repeated lockouts.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The boiler fails to light and locks out repeatedly at start-up
  • Sparking can be heard but no flame is established
  • The electrode tip is visibly eroded, cracked, distorted or heavily sooted
  • The ceramic insulator is cracked, discoloured or tracking
  • Ignition faults return shortly after the electrode has been cleaned

Before you order

  • Confirm your appliance model and GC number against the fit list above
  • Check the part number on the existing electrode matches 0020246709
  • Inspect the electrode and its lead for damage before ordering
  • Check whether ignition and flame detection are separate electrodes on your appliance
