What it is
This is a 5kW heating element manufactured by Vaillant, carrying part number 0020236133 and the designation 1/4PC. It is the immersion-type element used to heat the stored water in Vaillant unvented hot water cylinders. It screws into the cylinder boss and is wired to the appliance's electrical supply and control circuit.
Signs this part needs replacing
- No hot water from the cylinder despite the programmer and thermostat calling for heat
- The element circuit trips the RCD or MCB when the immersion is energised
- Continuity or resistance testing across the element terminals shows an open circuit
- Visible corrosion, blistering or heavy scale build-up on the element sheath
- Water weeping from the element boss or its sealing joint
Before you order
- Confirm the cylinder model and serial number from the data plate against the fitment list above
- Check the element rating and connection details on the existing element before removal
- Isolate the electrical supply and drain the cylinder before any work begins
- Inspect the cylinder boss and seal face for damage or scale while the element is out
