What it is

The Vaillant 0020197028 is a fan assembly for the ecoTEC VU range of gas boilers. It moves combustion air through the appliance and discharges flue gases, and forms part of the boiler's air and flue circuit. The fan is driven and monitored by the boiler's control system, which uses it to prove airflow before and during a firing cycle.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The fan is noisy, rumbling or screeching during operation or at start-up.
  • The boiler fails to ignite or locks out because airflow cannot be proved.
  • The fan does not spin when the boiler calls for heat.
  • Repeated fan or air pressure related fault codes on the boiler display.
  • Overheating or overheat lockouts caused by restricted or failed flue gas movement.

Before you order

  • Check the boiler rating plate to confirm the model is VU GB 1006/5-5 R3.
  • Confirm the GC number on the appliance matches the one listed for this part.
  • Compare the part number on the existing fan with 0020197028 before ordering.
  • Inspect the flue and air paths for blockages or debris, as these can mimic fan failure.
