What it is
The Glow-worm 0020118190 is a pressure relief valve used in Glow-worm heating appliances. It sits on the pressurised side of the system and opens automatically once the internal pressure reaches its set limit, discharging water through the outlet to protect the boiler, cylinder and connected pipework from over-pressurisation. Because it is a moving, water-facing component, it is a serviceable part that is replaced when it stops sealing correctly or stops responding to changes in system pressure.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Water weeping or dripping from the discharge pipe while the system is cold and at rest
- System pressure climbing steadily, or rising when the boiler is not firing
- The valve failing to reseat after it has opened, leaving a constant trickle at the outlet
- Scale, sludge or debris visible around the valve outlet, holding the seat open
- The pressure gauge sitting above the normal cold-fill figure with no other obvious cause
