What it is

A sacrificial anode manufactured by Vaillant for use in its unvented hot water cylinders. It is sized G1 x 26 x 792 and is fitted inside the cylinder to draw corrosion away from the steel shell. Over time the anode is consumed instead of the cylinder, so it is a serviceable wear item.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The anode rod is heavily eroded, pitted or reduced in diameter when inspected
  • The anode has been in service for several years and is due a routine check
  • Discoloured or rusty hot water drawn from the cylinder
  • Corrosion or staining visible around the cylinder shell or connections
  • The anode has been fully consumed, leaving the cylinder unprotected

  • Check the existing anode thread and length match G1 x 26 x 792
  • Allow enough headroom above the cylinder to withdraw and refit the anode
