What it is

The Glow-worm 0020061573 is a control electrode for Glow-worm gas appliances. It sits in the combustion path and serves two jobs: it delivers the high-voltage spark that lights the burner, and it senses the presence of a flame, returning that signal to the appliance control board. Because ignition and flame supervision run through the same component, a worn or contaminated electrode is a common cause of lockout faults.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The appliance attempts to fire but does not light, or lights briefly and then locks out
  • Repeated ignition lockout, often with a fault code relating to flame detection or no flame signal
  • Intermittent ignition that is worse in damp or cold conditions
  • Visible damage to the electrode: a cracked ceramic insulator, an eroded or rounded tip, or heavy soot and carbon bridging across the gap
  • Electrode gap out of tolerance, or perished insulation on the electrode lead

Before you order

  • Check the appliance data badge for the model and GC number and match it against the part number
  • Compare the existing electrode against the replacement for length, tip profile and mounting arrangement
  • Inspect the electrode lead and any gasket or seal at the mounting point at the same time, as these are usually disturbed during replacement
  • Confirm the part number on the old component before removing it, where it is still legible
  • This part is fitted to a gas appliance; installation must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
