What it is
The Vaillant expansion valve, part number 10033533, is a refrigerant circuit component used on Vaillant Arotherm PLUS /6 air source heat pump units. It meters refrigerant flow into the evaporator, controlling the pressure drop across the circuit and the superheat leaving the evaporator. The valve is matched to the Arotherm PLUS /6 platform in the 35 kW and 55 kW 230V S2 variants.

- Reduced heating or hot water output from the heat pump despite the compressor running
- Frost or ice forming on the outdoor unit pipework around the valve or distributor
- Erratic or excessive superheat readings, with the compressor running hotter than normal
- Repeated high-pressure or low-pressure faults locking the unit out
- Whistling or hissing from the refrigerant circuit at the valve position
