What it is
A magnesium sacrificial anode supplied by Ariston for electric storage water heater cylinders. It is fitted inside the cylinder to protect the steel shell from corrosion, sacrificing itself instead of the tank lining. This version measures 26 mm across and 600 mm long and is supplied with PTFE.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Hot water has a metallic, sulphur or otherwise unpleasant taste or smell
- Rumbling, popping or knocking noises from the cylinder as it heats
- Rust-coloured staining or discoloured water at the hot tap
- The anode rod is heavily pitted, coated in scale or reduced to a thin core when inspected
- Accelerated corrosion or weeping at the cylinder base or fittings

- Confirm the cylinder model and, where applicable, the serial number against the compatibility list
- Check the existing anode dimensions and fitting before ordering, as cylinder sizes vary across the range
- Note the earlier part number 919049 when comparing against an existing installation
- Have PTFE tape or a suitable seal to hand, as the anode is supplied with PTFE for the thread
