What it is

The Halstead 500590 is a 10 Ohm thermistor assembly used as a temperature-sensing component in Halstead domestic boilers. The printed circuit board passes a current through the thermistor and reads the resistance it returns; as temperature rises, resistance falls, and the board uses that reading to decide whether heat output should increase or decrease. It is designed for use in Finest, Ace, Wickes combi and Wickes boilers.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The boiler locks out or fails to fire on a call for heat
  • Temperature control becomes erratic, with the boiler running hotter or cooler than the set point
  • Domestic hot water temperature swings between hot and cold
  • The boiler cycles repeatedly or trips on overheat
  • A fault code relating to the temperature sensor or thermistor appears on the display

Before you order

  • Check the GC number on the appliance data badge against E23-602 to confirm the correct sensor
  • Confirm the model and serial number fall within the ranges shown in the compatibility list, as Halstead changed sensor fitment across production runs
  • Isolate the electrical supply to the boiler before removing and refitting the sensor
  • Note the alternative part number N0247 when cross-referencing against older stock or supplier listings
